I prefer the DHF over the Assegai for loose over hard terrain. more braking grip, better rolling resistance. Riders who are still using tubes should be very careful as the risk of pinching the tube while installing the tire is relatively high. The der baron comes in 2.6 in which is nice but Im not against the 2.4 options in both of these tires.
The tubeless issue is sorted when they introduced new Mountain King etc a year or two back they revised the whole range and massively improved the tubeless compatibility. But I really liked it for winter conditions - it was rolling slow, but grip was very good (around freezing temperature, mix of snow/mud/ice).
